Project Overview
This project involved pressure washing a merbau timber deck that had greyed and accumulated dirt, mould, and algae over several years of exposure. The deck was structurally sound but visually tired, and the clients wanted it cleaned and refreshed ahead of summer.
The Challenge
Timber decks require a different approach to concrete — too much pressure strips the grain and damages the surface. The mould had penetrated into the timber pores in shaded areas, particularly under the pergola overhang, and the deck oil had long since broken down.
The Solution
We applied a timber-specific mould treatment and allowed it to dwell before washing at a lower pressure setting with a fan nozzle to avoid grain damage. The deck was washed in the direction of the grain, rinsed thoroughly, and left to dry. Once dry, the natural colour of the merbau was restored and the surface was prepped for re-oiling by the homeowner.
The Result
The deck went from grey and patchy to showing its original warm merbau tones. The mould was fully cleared and the surface was clean and ready for a fresh coat of decking oil. A straightforward job that made a significant difference to the outdoor entertaining area.
